We were recently commissioned by the new owners of this charming thatched cottage in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Having just purchased the property, they had been correctly advised that the external walls required traditional lime plaster rather than the existing sand and cement render. Our works involved the careful removal of the inappropriate render, thorough cleaning of the exposed oak timber frame, installation of Thermafleece insulation, and new lathing fixed with stainless steel staples. To provide the requested additional thermal performance, we applied Warmcoat insulating lime plaster, followed by two coats of chalk lime plaster. These were trowelled to a smooth finish, with all external corners hand rolled for an authentic appearance. The clients particularly liked the soft, traditional wet-lime aesthetic, so we colour-matched the limewash and applied three coats to complete the project.

Church Mouse Barn

We were delighted to complete both the internal and external plastering at the beautiful Church Mouse Barn in Preston St Mary. This characterful barn conversion featured stunning exposed oak beams internally, so we took extra care with specialist preparation to keep the historic timber completely lime-free throughout the works. All walls, inside and out, were plastered over Savolit board. We applied 100 mm scrim tape to every board joint for maximum strength and a flawless finish, then followed with a traditional three coat lime plaster system: a base coat, followed (weather permitting) by two top coats 48 hours later, expertly trowelled to a smooth, high-quality finish. As a lovely personal request from the client, we also hand crafted a charming lime-rendered mouse sculpture the perfect finishing touch that perfectly captures the spirit of “Church Mouse Barn”. This project showcases our attention to detail and expertise in working with traditional timber framed buildings, delivering clean, crisp lines and a durable, attractive finish that enhances the warmth and character of the property.

Halstead farm house

Plastered this beautiful historic farmhouse throughout 2022 and 2023. We were absolutely spoilt with this one — the client took care of all the preparation work themselves, which turned the whole job into a real pleasure. We installed Thermafleece natural sheep’s wool insulation (breathable, sustainable and excellent for regulating moisture in old buildings), followed by traditional timber lath and three coats of lime plaster. The client loved the soft lime colour so much that we mixed an exact match and finished the exterior with three generous coats of limewash. The result is a stunning, authentic finish that lets the building breathe while protecting it for generations.

Ovington Hall Restoration Complete! ✨ We’re proud to share this beautiful transformation at the stunning Ovington Hall. The customer asked us to remove the existing 50 year old sand and cement render from the traditional timber framed building and replace it with a fully breathable system. Our works included: • Careful removal of the old render • Installation of Therma Fleece insulation • Timber lathing fixed with stainless steel staples • Three coats of premium lime plaster The result is a sympathetic, high quality finish that respects the historic character of the property while providing excellent breathability and longevity. Colchester Lime patchwork

We were recently commissioned by the new owners of a property in Colchester who are undertaking a phased renovation, working through the house room by room and reconfiguring spaces as they progress. The internal walls required extensive patchwork plastering due to previous alterations and general wear. Our works included the careful installation and finishing of a new fireplace, along with numerous smaller, detailed patch repairs throughout the property to restore a clean, seamless, and high quality finish.

Custom lime plaster horse head feature On this project the customer asked for a rendered wall with a striking 3D horse’s head in traditional lime plaster. I sketched the design freehand on site, then built it up in layers of lime plaster to create the relief. For the eye I used a carefully chosen stone to give it real depth and character, and I worked from a reference photo the client loved. The result is a beautiful, bespoke piece that sits perfectly on the freshly rendered wall — a one-off feature that really makes the property stand out. Lime plaster was the ideal choice here: it’s breathable, durable, and ages gracefully on an external wall while giving that soft, authentic finish.

Pebbledash Removal & Breathable Lime Render Renovation The customer wanted the old, worn-out pebbledash render completely stripped off and replaced with a traditional breathable lime plaster system we also handled the full exterior painting. This was one of the tougher jobs we’ve done, mainly because removing every last bit of the existing pebbledash was hard, labour intensive work. Once the walls were cleared and prepared, we installed Thermafleece natural sheep’s wool insulation (perfect for thermal performance and moisture regulation in older properties), followed by traditional timber lath and three coats of lime plaster. We finished the job with three coats of chalky limewash for that soft, authentic, matt look that lets the building breathe properly while looking crisp and beautiful. The transformation is a massive improvement a sympathetic, durable finish that will protect and enhance the property for years to come.

Historic Farmhouse Render Restoration This lovely old farmhouse was one of the hardest jobs we’ve ever done. The existing render was practically welded on it took a huge amount of hard, careful work to strip every last bit off without damaging the original walls. Once the building was fully prepared, we installed Thermafleece natural sheep’s wool insulation, traditional timber lath, and applied three coats of lime plaster. We finished with several generous coats of breathable limewash paint in this beautiful soft peach tone. The transformation is stunning a sympathetic, durable finish that lets the historic property breathe properly while giving it a fresh, warm new look that will last for generations.

External Lime Plastering and Pargetting

We were commissioned to restore this attractive timber-framed building following the installation of a new roof. Our works included the complete removal of the existing pebble dash render, thorough cleaning and preparation of the original oak timber frame, installation of insulation and new lathing, followed by traditional lime plaster. At the clients’ request, we also carried out decorative pargetting on the gable featuring their initials “D & J” and the year the work was completed, 2022. The project was finished with multiple coats of breathable limewash in this beautiful soft yellow, enhancing the building’s historic character while ensuring long-term breathability and durability.

Borley House Failed Render Repair & Full Limecote Re Render This beautiful property in Borley had been re-rendered just four years earlier, but the previous contractor hadn’t scrim taped the Savolit board joints. When the building naturally moved, the render cracked badly all over a problem I’ve seen many times. We stripped off the entire failed render, meticulously scrim taped every Savolit board join for proper movement and crack resistance, then re-plastered the whole house in Limecote (a high quality breathable lime render). We finished with multiple coats of traditional limewash for that soft, authentic finish. The result is a flawless, durable exterior that will move with the building instead of cracking a proper, long lasting solution that brings out the best in this lovely home.

Full External Lime Render & Limewash Transformation Thatched Cottage, Hartest, Suffolk We were delighted to carry out a complete external re render on this charming period thatched cottage in the picturesque village of Hartest, Suffolk. The old sand and cement render which was trapping moisture and damaging the historic fabric was carefully removed in full. We then installed Thermafleece insulation and traditional lathing before applying a multi-coat breathable lime plaster system. To complete the transformation, three generous coats of authentic Suffolk pink limewash were hand-applied, delivering a soft, traditional finish that perfectly complements the thatch and timber detailing. The result is a stunning visual upgrade combined with significantly improved thermal performance and long term protection for the building exactly what a heritage property like this deserves. Lime Plaster Restoration with Bespoke Hand-Sculpted Mice Period Property We were delighted to restore a failing render of traditional lime plaster on this attractive period property. The original render, applied directly over clunch, had deteriorated and detached from the wall. Our team carefully removed all the defective material before applying three full coats of high quality, breathable lime plaster. The customer then provided a charming drawing of two mice she wanted featured on the wall. I personally hand sculpted these delightful running mice in relief, faithfully copying her design straight into the fresh plaster to create a unique and playful bespoke detail. To finish, we applied three generous coats of soft limewash, restoring both the structural integrity and the original character of the wall. A really lovely project with a wonderful personal touch our customers were absolutely thrilled with the result! 🏡
